My Review Of "Now Foods Stevia Extract"

I recently went to my health food store and picked up a box of Now Foods Stevia.

So is it good?

A picture of the now foods brand of stevia

The Contents

The box came with 100 little packets of stevia.

Now you need to realize that the stevia plant is actually 300 times sweeter than normal sugar. So in order to make the amounts of this stevia sweetener manageable, they need to put a filler in the product.

The first filler that now foods stevia uses is Inulin. Inulin is actually a pretty good ingredient for you. It is about 10% of the sweetness of sugar, is considered a fiber, and promotes better digestion.

The second filler is Chromium. Chromium is something that our body needs to function properly, but generally comes naturally just from having a good diet.

You can be harmed from eating too much Chromium, but the amount that is contained in this product is negligible (50 mcg per package).

The Taste

Now here is the tricky part.

I'm not particularly a fan of this brand of stevia, but it is better than most.

You must understand that stevia does have a bitter aftertaste. There are some brands that have Eliminated this aftertaste, but this brand is not one of them. It definitely contains the aftertaste.

As well, I have found that it likes to clump up a little bit when I'm mixing it in my drinks. So I have to stir it quite a bit to get it to dissolve properly (And still it balls up a little bit in the drink).

I think that there could be a bit more sweetness for each package too, because I usually end up having to use more than one package in my drinks (Although in its defense, I do like my drinks really sweet).

Consensus

This Stevia Sweetener is not the best tasting brand on the market, but it's not the worst (And it certainly is good for you!)

I would recommend it to use, but understand that there are better brands out there.
