How Agave Nectar Can Save Your Diabetic Life

Trouble Finding Things To Eat (Without Agave Nectar)

As a Diabetic person, finding things that are safe to eat is going to be one of your biggest struggles in life.

First of all, you won't be able to buy any pre-made baking from stores like Cosco or Superstore, because they will all be full of sugar.

So most of the sweet food that you want to eat will have to be homemade, either by you or a friend. Of course, there are a few specialty stores that can cater to your needs, but all but a few are very expensive to buy from. Homemade baking is the way to go!

But how do you go about making these sweet recipes? After doing extensive research, I have found that common artificial sweeteners like Splenda and Aspartame are not a good solution.

It is likely that they will cause even more health problems than you had in the first place! Rather than act as a viable solution for safe sweeteners.

So what should you use to sweeten your baking? There has to be a solution somewhere...



Agave Nectar Is The Perfect Solution

I highly recommend the use of Agave Nectar.

Agave is a type of cactus grown mainly in Mexico. And if it is refined properly (Meaning the company doing the refinements do not add any extra ingredients) then it has been shown to be safe for diabetics.

But you must be careful when selecting your brand of Agave.



About The Glycemic Index

It seems like some of the brands of Agave such as "Wholesome Sweeteners Blue Agave Syrup" are not quite as pure as they seem.

The ingredients list says it only has "organic agave syrup", but Wholesome Sweeteners website claims the Agave has a Glycemic Index of "39 or less".

Which seems fine. Until you look at the competing brand of Agave Nectar (Volcanic Nectar) which had their product tested and ranks 27 on the Glycemic index.

So if both products are pure, then how come there is a fluctuation in their results?

The reason is that Wholesome Sweeteners brand (and many others) is not as pure as they say, and it has additives in it.

What do these numbers mean to you? Well in order for a product to be safe for Diabetics, it must be less than 55 on the Glycemic index.

Technically, both of these brands are safe for you to eat, but I would recommend that you only use the Volcanic Nectar brand if you are Diabetic, as it has been labeled as "Safe for Diabetics" where as the Wholesome Sweeteners brand has not.



How Agave Reacts In Your Baking

Using Agave in your baking is very similar to using maple syrup or honey.

I recommend that you use equal portions of Agave when substituting it for sugar in your recipes (So if a recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar, use 1 cup of Agave Nectar instead).

Of course, because it is a liquid instead of a solid, the Agave won't work quite as well in some recipes (Especially recipes that call for brown sugar, as it won't give the "Crunch" that brown sugar delivers). For those recipes, I recommend you use Stevia or Erythritol to bridge the gap!

You can use Agave to sweeten your drinks (I often squeeze Lemons and add Agave to make fresh Lemonade) and you won't have to feel guilty about what you are eating!

Did I mention that Agave Nectar is 25% sweeter than sugar?



Last Remarks

Compared to even other natural Sweeteners (Such as Stevia, which is good for you but unless you get the best stevia brand, it has a nasty aftertaste), Agave Nectar has the best taste out of all of them.

You can use it to Sweeten almost anything, and it will make living with a disease such as Diabetes just that much easier.

As for myself, I would say it has practically saved my life; I love my sweets so much I would have just eaten them anyways, even if they made me sick!
